Abnormal wound healing after excessive cell production in the body is known as keloid. Under normal conditions, tissue repair stops when the wounds pass to the healing stage. However, in individuals with this disease, tissue repair continues persistently. For this reason, the wound begins to grow even when it is in the healing process. Except for very superficial injuries, a raised skin tissue that occurs as a result of impacts due to all kinds of trauma is called keloid. It is mostly shaded close to pink and contains a shapeless image. It occurs in individuals in invisible areas of the body and sometimes does not cause discomfort. However, its formation on the face or in visible areas can adversely affect individuals.
What Are the Types of Keloid?
Such abnormal wound healing is grouped into five groups according to its type and type. These:
- Earlobe: It is the type that occurs after the ear piercing application.
- Sessile: It occurs as a result of damage to the skin. This type of wound can be seen on all parts of the body.
- Occurs after surgical incision: It is the most common type in white-skinned individuals. It occurs in areas where there is a lot of skin tension such as back, shoulder, and breastbone.
- Self-occurring: It occurs after a trauma that occurs mostly in individuals.
- Acne keloidalisnuchae: It usually occurs on the nape of the neck in men who are in the process of puberty. Acne that appears in the same place occurs after acne or inflammation. It makes it possible to get good results in surgical treatment.
How is Keloid Treatment Done?
Surgical treatment technique is not recommended for this problem without applying various treatment techniques. The reason for this is that after each wound is created, more collagen synthesis occurs and tumor formation is promoted. No matter how much care is taken during a surgical application, scars may still develop in relation to the skin tissue of the individual. Therefore, it would be ideal not to suture in surgical applications. There are multiple techniques for treatment. The most preferred of these is the technique performed by performing cortisone injection for keloid. Apart from these treatment techniques, various applications such as cryotherapy, laser treatment, radiation therapy are also performed.
Who Has Keloid?
It mostly occurs between the ages of 10-30. After the age of 30, it rarely occurs. In general, it is more common in dark-skinned individuals, brunettes and blacks. It occurs more often in those who are in adolescence and in moves. The parts of the body that consist of keloids the most are shoulders, back, chest, all areas where the skin is tense. This problem may even occur after ear perforation. Sometimes there is a possibility of Keloid formation in cases such as chickenpox angle, insect bite, acne and pimples, surgery.
